Initialement proposé par Nicolas "NykO18" Grevet, en 2008, ce mod profite d'un remaster, basé sur l'outil RTX Remix, NykO18 s'est associé à un autre modder, David "Kralich" Driver-Gomm, afin d'apporter le Path Tracing à son jeu.
Portal: Prelude RTX profite des technologies DLSS3, NVIDIA Reflex et NVIDIA RTXIO. Cette dernière est basée sur l'API DirectStorage, et permet aux GPUs d'accéder aux périphériques de stockage, afin d'accélérer les chargements de textures, cela est plus efficient avec les SSD Nvme.
